Babies and Children

What to expect

When your child is diagnosed with a cardiac condition it is a naturally worrying time and you may be unsure about what is going to happen next.

There are a number of different routes you may follow through your care journey, but do not worry as there will always be support and information along the way. You may come into contact with the cardiac team through:

 Your antenatal / postnatal team

 Accident and Emergency

GP or paediatrician who may refer you to an outpatient clinic near you

If the Paediatric team at your local centre suspect that your baby or your child has a heart condition, they will discuss this with the East Midlands Congenital Heart Network Team to decide what further investigations or treatments are needed. If your child needs urgent transfer as an inpatient for investigations or a procedure then our specialist retrieval team will bring them to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, our Level 1 Centre.
